Spring is on the horizon!

I get so excited when the sun shines in January, especially when there's been a frost the night before and the plants in the garden are all a-glitter. So just had to get out there this morning to do some long overdue clearing and tidying.  Our back garden in York is quite protected and south facing, so by the time I started things were warming up, although the roofs all around were still sparkling with frost.

The first snowdrops came out yesterday - there's something about the appearance of these brave little souls in the middle of winter that flips a switch and turns on the new year for me. I do realise we've got a long way to go before spring, but it's a reminder that the world's waking up and the whole cycle's starting again.

Here are some photos I took this morning, proof that spring is definitely in the air.

Amaryllis has decided it's showtime
First of many snowdrops in the garden - yay!
Dilly looks on perkily while I work
Arlo has to be in the centre of everything
Cyclamen and stinking iris berries withstand the frost,
note the new bulbs are pushing through
There are three suns in the garden today
This is the second and the third is for REAL!!
Refections in a mosaic
The French lavender has survived - looking forward to the
strawberries that'll be grown in the next pot later in the year
Naughty boys ganging up on me on the counter
as I make coffee, saying feed us too!
Feeling smug now looking out the window over
 coffee, admiring my work
There I was yesterday, convinced I had flu, then today the sun shines, and after a few hours in the garden I feel a million times better. There's nothing like a spot of gardening medicine to get the feel good factor going!
